Hangzhou — Calm, Tea, and the World's Most Beautiful Lake
Marco Polo called it 'the finest and most splendid city in the world.' West Lake still delivers. A softer, more reflective side of China — ideal for travelers who want atmosphere over intensity.

About this journey
Why choose Hangzhou?
Hangzhou is well suited to travelers who want something less intense than a major city rush. It is a place for scenery, tea culture, quiet design, and a more intimate kind of travel experience. Often paired with Shanghai as a two- or three-city route, it offers a genuinely different rhythm — and the kind of quiet beauty that stays with you. West Lake is genuinely one of China's great landscapes.

01 Arrival & West Lake at Dusk
Arrive from Shanghai by high-speed rail (46 minutes) or private car (1.5–2 hrs). Hotel check-in, then a lakeside walk during the golden hour — one of the most beautiful moments at West Lake. 02 Tea Mountains & Longjing Village
A morning drive to the Longjing tea fields — terraced green hillsides on the outskirts of Hangzhou, home to the famous Dragon Well tea. Visit a working tea farm, watch the processing, and taste freshly picked and roasted Longjing. Afternoon at the China National Tea Museum, then a return to the lake for an optional boat crossing to Xiao Ying Zhou island.
- Longjing tea village — rows of terraced tea fields
- Tea farm visit with processing demonstration and tasting
- China National Tea Museum
- West Lake boat option — island temples and willow-lined causeways
03 Temples, Gardens & Departure
Morning at Lingyin Temple — one of China's most important Buddhist temples, set in a forested hillside. Carvings and caves en route to the main halls. Then a walk through the adjacent botanical gardens, a final lakeside coffee, and a relaxed departure. Return to Shanghai by rail or private car.
