7 Days in China — Best First-Time Private Itinerary
7 Days in China: The Classic First-Timer Route
Seven days is the minimum recommended length for a first visit to China. It gives you enough time to see two major cities without rushing.
Recommended Route: Beijing + Xi’an
Day 1-3: Beijing
Arrive in Beijing. Your guide meets you at the airport and transfers you to your hotel. Day 2: The Great Wall at Mutianyu (cable car up, walk the wall, toboggan down). Day 3: Forbidden City + Temple of Heaven + hutong rickshaw ride. Evening Peking duck dinner.
Day 4-5: Xi’an
High-speed train from Beijing to Xi’an (4.5 hours). Day 4: Terracotta Warriors (early morning to beat crowds) + Ancient City Wall bike ride. Day 5: Muslim Quarter food tour + Great Mosque + Xi’an museum.
Day 6-7: Return or Extend
Fly home from Xi’an, take the train back to Beijing for your outbound flight, or extend into a longer itinerary.
Pacing
Daily walking: Moderate (6,000-10,000 steps/day). Comfortable walking shoes essential.
Best months: March-May and September-October.
Hotel: 4-star to luxury, centrally located. Your preference.
Private Tour Estimate
From $2,100 per person (based on 2 travelers, 4-star hotels, private guide and driver throughout, entrance fees, and high-speed rail). Excludes international flights.
Can This Be Extended?
Yes. Add 3 days in Shanghai (Beijing→Shanghai high-speed rail, 4.5 hours) or swap Xi’an for Chengdu for a panda-focused trip.
